Hatton, ABS take Lawrence County division crowns

Hatton High’s volleyball team won the gold division at Lawrence County’s weekend tournament, while Athens Bible took the silver division title.
Hatton beat Athens Bible 25-23, 25-24 and took wins over Wellborn 25-14, 25-23, East Limestone 25-11, 25-16, and host Lawrence County 19-25, 25-21, 25-21. The Lady Hornets’ only loss Saturday was to Winston County 25-17, 22-25, 24-26.
Kaitlyn Fleming paced the Lady Hornets with 26 kills in the tournament, while Chloe Malone contributed 27. Teammate Tamra Terry had a team-high 48 assists. Malone led the team in blocks with 26, while Fleming had 17. Erin Shelton gave Hatton seven aces.
Athens Bible fell only to Hatton, but beat Wellborn 25-8, 25-21, Winston County 25-13, 25-16, Elkmont 25-23, 25-22, and Haleyville 25-23, 25-21.
For the Lady Trojans, Abbie Melvin had 45 kills, while Christina Ivey had 32. Melvin also led Athens Bible in digs with 29, followed by Makalyla Melvin’s 23. Hannah Owens posted a team-best 55 assists, followed by Athena Hinkle with 33.
Juanita Boddie Invitational: Austin High’s volleyball team went 3-2 in the tournament at Mountain Brook.
The Lady Black Bears got wins over Shades Valley 25-21, 25-9, Hazel Green 17-25, 25-23, 16-14, and Hoover 25-19, 16-25, 15-12. Austin fell to Daphne 20-25, 16-25, and Pelham 11-25, 10-25.
Shara Foster’s 28 kills were a team-best for Austin, while Shanise Foster added 18, and Tiera Robinson has 14. The Lady Black Bears were aided by Lindsey Roger’s team-high 30 assists, and Shanise Foster had 12.
Ali Barnette had 15 digs. Shara Foster’s eight aces paced the Lady Black Bears, followed by Smith with four. Shara Foster and Shanise Foster each had six blocks, while Robinson had three.
