Decatur whips Randolph; Austin wins pair

Decatur High swept Randolph in volleyball Tuesday, winning 25-14, 25-8, 25-4.

Whitney Fletcher had nine kills for Decatur (3-5), while Quita Lyle added five. Kim Collis contributed seven assists, and Shannon Laughlin added five.

Lyle had five aces, and Abi Ferrell contributed three.

On Monday, Decatur fell to Catholic 26-24, 25-22 as Fletcher had four kills, and Abi Lott had two aces. Decatur also beat Athens 27-25, 25-14 in a Class 5A, Area 16 match.

Kate Graham had four blocks, while Fletcher had five kills and Lyle four. Shannon Laughlin contributed three assists, and Claire Fisher had an ace to clinch the match.

Austin wins two: The Lady Black Bears defeated Athens 25-12, 25-18 and then beat host Brewer 25-19, 25-15 on Tuesday.

For Austin (7-2), Shara Foster collected 14 kills, while Brittney Smith added six. Foster also had five blocks. Lindsey Rogers had 10 assists, and Shanise Foster had eight. Ali Barnett had seven digs, and Rogers contributed four aces.

Austin will travel to Florence to play Muscle Shoals and Florence on Thursday.

Danville nips Lawrence County: Lindsay Simmons and Jordan Spinks each had 14 kills and senior Alaina Fitzgerald had 13 to pace the Danville Hawks past Lawrence County in a five-set match in Moulton on Tuesday. Danville won 17-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-22 and 15-10.

Fitzgerald also had 24 assists, while Lacey Evans had 10 assists and Kimberly Lindsey contributed seven.

Fitzgerald had six digs, and Kirby Wallace added 10 aces. Tara Wimberley had four digs and Morgan Doherty had three for the winners.

Danville (7-2) will play in the Muscle Shoals tournament Saturday.

Athens Bible wins: Athens Bible beat West Morgan 26-24, 25-19 and Tanner 25-9, 25-9. Abbie Melvin had 16 kills, while Christina Ivey had six and Makayla Melvin five. Hannah Owen pitched in 17 assists, and Athena Hinkle contributed 15.

ABS (7-1) will travel to West Limestone on Thursday.
