Baseball

Basketball
Youth basketball teams will be taking registration Sept. 17 through Oct. 20 at the Aquadome Recreation Center in Decatur.
Players are placed by their age on Sept. 1.
Age divisions include
Age divisions are: Mixed girls and boys 5-6; boys 7-8; girls 7-9; boys 9-10; girls 10-12; boys 11-12; boys 13-14.

Organizational meetings for adult basketball leagues are set for the Aquadome on Sept. 10.
The morning league teams will meet at 9 a.m. and the men’s church and men’s industrial leagues will meet at 7:30 p.m.
Entry fee is $425 per team by Oct.1 and $475 from Oct. 1-8.
The leagues feature a 12-game season and a single-elimination tournament.

Football
Children ages 8-15 in the Tennessee Valley are eligible to compete in the NFL Pepsi Punt,Pass and Kick competition at the Alabama A&M field on Sept. 8.
Registration is free and begins at 11 a.m. Competition begins at noon.
Winners of the local competition will advance to the sectional competition in Chattanooga. Those winners will advance to the team championship at a Tennessee Titans game in November or December. Winners there will compete at the nationals at an NFL playoff game in January.
The NFl will pay the expenses of the team championship winners and two adults.
Local participants in the A&M competition will receive a free ticket to the Alabama A&M vs. Clark football game.

Registration for the 2007 fall season of the Decatur Flag Football League is now taking
place.
DFFL, now in its 14th season, provides football of a different style for adults who enjoy the game and are looking for some good exercise.
There will be a players’/coaches’ meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the T.C. Almon Recreation Center in Point Mallard Park.
The individual signup fee is $40 per player. Registration deadline is Sept. 10. After this date, there will be a $50 late fee.
The season will begin Sept. 16 and consist of an eight- or nine-game season. In addition, each team will make it to the playoffs. Winners of the league receives a first-place trophy and an entry fee of up to $300 toward the Southeast Regional Tournament in Atlanta.

Linda DeJong used a 9-wood to sink a hole-in-one on the 11th hole at the Point Mallard Golf Course on Aug. 26. Witnessing the 119-yard ace were Ron DeJong, Kirk Shippers and Val Shippers.
Bryan Askew and Jimmy Reist totaled 134 in the 2-man better ball stroke play format to capture the Burningtree Country Club Men’s Invitational Aug. 24-26.
Trent Howell and Casey Thomas were second at 137.
Gary Campbell and Mike McGill had a 140 to win the B division.

Highlights of the season will include a mid-season tournament, doubleheader weekend, end of season party and monthly newsletter.
Jerseys and socks will be provided.

The Red Bay Founders Fest 5-kilometer and 1-mile run and walk is set for Sept. 15 at 9 a.m.
Entry fee begins at $10. The top three finishers in each division will receive an award. All runners will receive a T-shirt and refreshments.
