Austin High wins home volleyball tournament

Lindsey Rogers, Shara Foster and Ali Barnett led Austin championship Saturday. The Lady Black Bears went undefeated in the 10-team tournament.

Austin defeated Madison Academy 25-19, 25-18 in the finals for the championship. Austin whipped Grissom junior varsity 25-14, 25-22 in the semifinals.

The Lady Black Bears also had wins over Catholic-Huntsville, Cullman and Lee-Huntsville.

Rogers had 59 assists and four aces. Foster racked up 44 kills, 15 blocks and nine aces. Barnett recorded 22 digs and nine saves. All three players made the all-tournament team.

Austin (14-3) will play at Grissom on Tuesday.

Cross country

Brooks Invitational:Lawrence County finished third in both the boys and girls divisions of the Brooks Invitational cross country meet Saturday at McFarland Park in Florence.

Tupelo (Miss.) won the girls title, followed by Rogers in second. Tupelo won the boys title as well, while Cullman was second.

In the girls division, Lawrence County’s Ari Stephenson placed sixth, followed by four teammates: Lyndsie Warren, 21st; Karrie Lynn Letson, 22nd; McKenzie Gaddy, 34th; and Maranda Pitt, 37th.

For the boys, Logan Underwood was 12th, followed by Collins Montgomery, 14th; Joshua Crumpton, 18th; Jonathan Naylor, 23rd; and Ryan Hood, 25th.
