E. Lawrence evens record in victory

East Lawrence High won 20-7 at Ardmore on Friday and in the process matched its win total from last year.

East Lawrence (1-1) won only one game a year ago.

In a Class 4A, Region 7 matchup, East Lawrence's Bruce Mason rushed 19 times for 112 yards and a touchdown, while teammate Timmy McCoy added 92 rushing yards on 15 carries and a touchdown.

Ardmore took the lead in the opening quarter, when Landon Curtis rushed 2 yards for a touchdown. Kevin Shelton's extra point made it 7-0. Curtis finished with 101 rushing yards on 22 carries.

In the second quarter, McCoy scored on a 2-yard run. East Lawrence added another touchdown in the third quarter, when Roy Young caught a 55-yard touchdown pass from Martin Gardner. Mason topped off the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 7-yard touchdown run. Young's 2-point pass reception from Gardner finished the scoring.

East Limestone 41, Priceville 13: Jonathan Pinque rushed for 151 yards on 13 carries and scored four touchdowns for the fourth-ranked Indians.

Three of his touchdowns came in the opening quarter, and the fourth came in the second period. His scoring runs covered 4, 80, 12 and 7 yards.

Jacob Appleby made all four of his extra-point attempts, in addition to field goals from 34 and 43 yards. Grant Talbert made an extra point, too.

Also for East Limestone, Hayden Scott caught four passes for 103 yards, and Andrew Hamilton returned an interception 40 yards for a score.

For Priceville (0-2), Eli Allen had 136 rushing yards on 15 carries. Will Halbrooks scored a touchdown and made 10 tackles on defense.

Aaron Sawyer caught a 37-yard scoring pass from Logan Manthey, and Justin Anderson made an extra point.

Russellville 47, Brewer 10: A week after beating rival Priceville, the Patriots struggled against Russellville, the third-ranked team in 5A.

Russellville (2-0) scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and four in the second for a 41-0 halftime lead.

Brewer (1-1) got all 10 of its points in the third period. Jon Brasher made a 37-yard field goal, and Dylan Whisenant scored on a 19-yard run. Brasher added the extra point.

Russellville rushed for 339 yards, and Michael Abernathy had 155 yards on 12 carries and a 74-yard touchdown run.

Caleb Mitchell scored once on a run and a second time on a touchdown pass.

Rogers 45, Lawrence County 13: Rogers running back Zeke Pigg rushed for four touchdowns, and Chris Henley added two more as the Pirates (2-0) routed the Red Devils (1-1).

After a Rogers score, Lawrence County quarterback Radney Wallace hit wide receiver Aaron Hubbert with a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.

However, Rogers scored 24 unanswered points.

Lawrence County didn't score again until just before halftime when Matthew Pugh threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Radney Wallace.
