South Florida (1-0) at No. 17 Auburn (1-0)
When: Saturday, 8 p.m.
Where: Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn.
Line: Auburn by 7.
TV/radio: ESPN2 will broadcast the game on television. The radio broadcast can be heard on FM-106.1, AM-1230 and FM-98.3
Players to watch: All of Auburn’s offensive linemen. Quarterback Brandon Cox was sacked five times and hurried plenty more during last week’s win over Kansas State.
South Florida’s offense is fueled by true freshman running back Mike Ford and sophomore quarterback Matt Grothe. The two combined for 321 of USF’s 373 yards against Elon last week. Ford, a former Alabama signee in 2005 and ’06 who didn’t qualify academically, is used as a runner and a receiver out of the backfield.
Key matchup: South Florida receiver Courtney Denson against former Auburn teammate Patrick Lee, who plays cornerback in the Tigers’ nickel package, which features five defensive backs. Denson signed with Auburn in 2003 as a quarterback but was moved to the secondary. He later transferred to South Florida and caught two passes for the Bulls last week. Denson and Lee, who roomed together for two years in Auburn, will face each other Saturday night as rivals.
Weather: Mostly sunny with a low of 70 degrees and a high of 93. The chance of rain is 10 percent.
Last meeting: Never.
Prediction: Auburn 20, South Florida 6.
