Speake scores early in 29-point win

Speake scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and three more in the third as the Bobcats whipped Hackleburg 42-13.

Speake (2-1) rushed for 224 yards with six different running backs gaining at least 30. Josh Cooper led the way with 80 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Chase Atkins picked up 51 and scored twice.

Tyler Gillespie also rushed for a touchdown, and Zach Vick caught a 43-yard scoring pass from T.J. Green. Vick also rushed for a 2-point conversion.

Dez Polk ran back a punt 91 yards for a touchdown. Cary Logan kicked three extra points, while Shaun Hayden added one.

R.A. Hubbard 22, Phillips-Bear Creek 12: The Chiefs rolled to a road win behind a running game that produced 293 yards.

The best touchdown came in the opening quarter when R.A. Hubbard trailed 6-0. The Chiefs' Tecumseh Garth attempted a run, but the ball popped out of his hands when he was hit. LeBrandon Key caught the ball on the fly and ran 65 yards for a touchdown.

In the second quarter, Phillips (2-1) scored on Adam McCarley's interception return for a 12-6 lead, but R.A. Hubbard (2-1) rebounded again. Key scored on a 5-yard run, and Garth ran for the 2-point conversion, putting the Chiefs up 14-12.

With 1:16 left in the third quarter, the Chiefs put some distance between them and Phillips when Garth scored on a 35-yard run on fourth-and-two. Javaris Gholston scored on the 2-point run to make it 22-12.

Hazlewood 44, Shoals Christian 0: The Golden Bears have not allowed a point through three games this year. Combined with a solid offensive attack, they were too tough to beat.

Quarterback Keginald Harris threw two touchdown passes and rushed for one more as the Golden Bears defeated Shoals Christian.

Shoals Christian (1-2, 1-1 Region 8) started strong by keeping the game at a 0-0 tie through the first quarter.

Hazlewood (3-0, 2-0), however, scored three touchdowns in the second quarter on runs by Harris and Jeremy Green. A pass from Harris to Kerry Jones gave the Golden Bears a 19-0 lead at the half.

The Golden Bears added another touchdown in the third quarter when Harris threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Don Jones to give Hazlewood a 25-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Jones threw a 26-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to Chris Ricks. Jones rushed for 128 yards on 11 carries. Ladarious Deloney and Jacolby Porter each added a touchdown in the final five minutes of the game on runs of 12 yards.
