Elkmont hot in third quarter for second win

Elkmont High scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to pull away from Lexington for a 34-21 win Friday night.

Elkmont (2-1) trailed 14-7 at the half, but running back Brandon Baker scored on runs of 1 and 11 yards and quarterback Johnathan Carter had a 10-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to put Elkmont up 28-14.

Lexington (0-3), which had six turnovers, made it 28-21 on Tyler Duke's 21-yard run in the fourth quarter, but Carter ran for another touchdown to seal Elkmont's Class 3A, Region 8 victory.

Along with his two scoring runs, Carter completed 9 of 15 passing attempts for 161 yards and opened the game with a 39-yard touchdown strike to David Solomon.

Sumiton Christian 27, Danville 7: Sumiton Christian quarterback Josh Rouse threw three touchdowns and ran for another in a win over Danville.

Sumiton Christian (3-0, 2-0 Region 7) held Danville (0-3, 0-2) to 147 yards of offense. Danville's only score came on Clint McAbee's 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 5:10 left in the game.

Rouse completed touchdown passes of 57, 12 and 21 yards, while running for a 28-yard score in the third quarter that put Sumiton Christian up 20-0 in the third quarter.

Colbert Heights 42, West Limestone 20: West Limestone got three rushing touchdowns from three different players, but it wasn't enough to outlast Colbert Heights' passing game in the Class 3A, Region 8 matchup.

West Limestone (1-2) was best on the ground with 151 yards rushing and three touchdowns, but Colbert Heights (2-1) countered with 276 yards passing.

West Limestone got rushing touchdowns on Chris Wilbanks' 10-yard run, Jake Appleton's 13-yard run and Palmer Askew's 15-yard run, all in the first half.

Colbert Heights led 28-20 at halftime, before scoring a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to seal the win.

Clements 6, Sheffield 0: The Colts secured their first win of the season with a Region 8 victory over Sheffield.

Brad Smith scored the lone touchdown on a 12-yard run in the first quarter.

Clements recovered a Sheffield fumble and drove for Smith's touchdown.
