Austin scores volleyball win over rival Decatur

Playing in a volleyball tri-match at Athens High, Austin scored a win over rival Decatur 25-16, 25-22.

Both teams also beat Athens, with Austin winning 25-10, 25-19 and Decatur taking a 25-18, 17-25, 25-20 win.

Austin is now 27-12, while Decatur is 11-15, including 3-2 in Class 5A, Area 16.

Shara Foster led Austin with 15 kills, while Tiera Robinson had 14 and Shanise Foster eight.

Lindsey Rogers led in assists with 18, while Carlie Keenum added 14. Ali Barnette contributed 19 digs, and Abi Merrill had 11. Shara Foster and Shanise Foster each had six blocks, and Robinson served five aces.

For Decatur, Whitney Fletcher had 10 kills, while Victoria Wynn had seven and Quita Lyle five.

Shannon Laughlin had 16 assists, and Kim Collis contributed seven. Fletcher, Lyle, Laughlin and Jelisa Thompson each had two aces.

Hatton wins three: The Lady Hornets swept matches over Mars Hill 25-12, 25-15, Cherokee 25-8, 25-6 and Cold Springs 25-14, 25-8. Chloe Malone had 26 kills for the winners, while Kaitlyn Fleming added 17.
