Danville sweeps Class 5A Muscle Shoals

Class 3A Danville High’s volleyball team continues to impress with success over teams in larger classifications.

On Monday, Danville beat 5A Muscle Shoals 25-22, 25-12. Hartselle then beat Danville 22-25, 25-13, 25-15.

For Danville, Alaina Fitzgerald’s 22 kills were a team-high, followed by Lindsay Simmons with 13 and Jordan Spinks with nine.

Kimberley Lindsey helped pace the Lady Hawks with 22 assists, followed by Fitzgerald’s 20. Lacey Evans had a team-best 32 digs, while Simmons paced Danville with six aces.

Danville will play Thursday at Brewer.

n Austin struggled through a pair of matches at Bob Jones on Monday. Host Bob Jones beat the Lady Black Bears 25-23, 25-13, while Hazel Green scored a 25-14, 25-20 win over Austin.

Brittney Smith had a team-high 13 kills for Austin (29-16), while Shara Foster contributed 11.

Lindsey Rogers and Carlie Keenum each had 12 assists. Ali Barnette’s 11 digs were a team-best, followed by Abi Merrill’s eight.

Tiera Robinson had five blocks, while Shara Foster had three.

Austin will host Sparkman on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Austin and Decatur will not play Wednesday in a change from the original schedule.

The city rivals instead will play Oct. 3 at Austin.

n Athens Bible beat Athens 25-21, 25-9 and West Morgan 25-18, 25-15 on Monday as Abbie Melvin had 13 kills and Christina Ivey added 12.

Hannah Owen led in assists with 19, while Athena Hinkle added 14.

Owens had six aces, and Melvin led in digs with eight.

ABS (25-2) will play at Westminster on Tuesday against Westminster and Randolph.

n Speake split two matches Monday, beating R.A. Hubbard 25-11, 25-5 and falling to Hatton 27-25, 21-25, 25-21.

Kylie Black led with 21 kills, while Malea Hensley added eight. Hensley was tops in assists with 17, while Cortney Jones added 15. Bridget Fulks had 10 digs for Speake (14-9).
