Decatur clinches second in 5A, Area 16

Decatur High’s volleyball team clinched second in Class 5A, Area 16 play when it beat Russellville 25-13, 24-26, 25-22 on Tuesday.

The Lady Red Raiders also fell 25-19, 25-22 to Danville.

Whitney Fletcher led Decatur (12-16, 4-2 in Area 16) with 14 kills, while Quita Lyle added nine and Shannon Laughlin had six. Laughlin led in assists with 12 and Kim Collis added six.

Jelisa Thompson had six digs and Abi Lott had five. Kate Graham provided seven blocks. , and Collis served four aces.

Danville also scored a 25-20, 25-22 win over Russellville.

Lindsey Simmons and Jordan Spinks each had 12 kills for the Lady Hawks, while Alaina Fitzgerald added 10. Fitzgerald had 22 assists, while Lacey Evans contributed 18 digs. Simmons served seven aces.

Austin wins: Shara Foster had 12 kills and three blocks to lead Austin past Sparkman 26-15, 28-26, 25-14.

Brittney Smith added 11 kills for the Lady Black Bears (30-16). Tiera Robinson also recorded four blocks. Lindsey Rogers had 16 assists and Carlie Keenum 13.

Abi Merrill tallied nine digs and Ali Barnett had seven.

Austin will play in the Hoover Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Speake sweeps: The Lady Bobcats beat Mount Hope 25-19, 25-13 and Phillips 25-12, 25-7.

Kylie Black had 17 kills to lead Speake (16-9), while Malea Hensley added six. Black served eight aces, and Hensley had a team-high 19 assists. Cortney Jones added 14.

Bridget Fulks led with seven digs, while Jones had six. Black had five blocks.

Athens Bible sweeps: The Lady Trojans defeated Randolph 25-9, 25-6 and Westminster 25-23, 25-8.

Christina Ivey led with 14 kills, while Abbie Melvin added 12. Hannah Owen was tops in assists with 14, and Athena Hinkle had eight. Haley Chittam served four aces for ABS (27-2).
