Fannin working overtime to hold onto the football

By Ross Dellenger

AUBURN — Mario Fannin had dodged teammates all week.

But he couldn't avoid fellow running back Brad Lester.

While Fannin was stretching, Lester snuck up behind Auburn's redshirt freshman tailback and popped the football loose.

"That was the only time I lost it," Fannin said laughing.

Following three fumbles in two games, Fannin carried a football around campus last week leading up to Auburn's game against New Mexico State. Teammates were encouraged to slap the ball away from Fannin if they spotted him. He had eluded those attempts all week until Lester snuck up and surprised him.

Fannin's on-campus exercise began because of his two fumbles against South Florida and a third the next week against Mississippi State.
