Hazlewood remains perfect
Speake rings up 57 points against Shoals Christian

D.J. Jones scored three touchdowns and Carlos Holden added two as Hazlewood remained unbeaten with a 48-7 win over Vina on Friday night.

Jaylon Jones opened the scoring with a 27-yard blocked punt return, and Hazlewood (7-0, 5-0 in Class 1A, Region 8) never trailed.

Holden scored on runs of 13 and 15 yards, while Jones had scoring runs of 10, 12 and 15 yards. He finished with 87 rushing yards on seven carries.

Chris Jones added a touchdown run, and Keginald Harris rushed for a 2-point conversion.

Vina (2-5, 0-5) got its lone touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Speake 57, Shoals Christian 32: The Speake offense rolled up eight touchdowns, including seven on the ground.

Dez Polk rushed for 179 yards on 10 carries and scored four touchdowns, while teammate Tyler Gillespie added 106 rushing yards on five carries with a touchdown on an 80-yard run. Polk's scores came on runs of 50, 56, 7 and 44 yards.

Zack Vick caught three passes for 127 yards and a touchdown. T.J. Green completed 6 of 11 passes for 201 yards and the touchdown to Vick.

Zach Taylor rushed for two scores on rushes of 9 and 15 yards.

Speake (6-1, 4-1 in Region 8) rolled up 617 yards of offense, including 416 on the ground.

Hackleburg 32, R.A. Hubbard 14: Greg Young and LeBrandon Key each rushed for a touchdown, but it wasn't enough for the Chiefs in a loss at Hackleburg.

Hackleburg's John McKinney tossed four touchdown passes to three different receivers to lead his team to a victory.

McKinney completed two of them for an early 13-0 lead before R.A. Hubbard (2-5, 1-4) rallied with a touchdown from Young on a 65-yard run.

After Hackleburg scored another touchdown, Key gave the Chiefs a score on a 19-yard run in the third period.

He then completed a 2-point pass to Tecumseh Garth to cut the Hackleburg lead to 18-14.

However, that was as close as the Chiefs got to Hackleburg (1-6, 1-4), which scored twice more in the second half.
