Lawrence County knew coming into Friday night's game that it was going to have its hands full against a Brooks team with a powerful offense.

With running back Kenyatta Roach and quarterback Marcus Corbin leading the way for Brooks, Lawrence County head coach Ernie Ferguson and his team knew if they wanted to come away with a win, they were going to have to stop them first.

The Red Devils managed to shut down Roach in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Lions came away with a 42-14 victory.

Roach finished with 80 rushing yards and a touchdown run of 44 yards. Corbin rushed for 39 yards and threw for 135 on 7-of-11 passing.

"We've played a lot better than we have the last couple weeks, especially against a team that has so many weapons," Ferguson said. "We were trying to stop Corbin a little bit and didn't do it as well as we wanted to but not too many people latch on him."

Brooks (6-1) scored on all four of its offensive series in the first quarter, leading 27-0 at the end of the period. A 5-yard touchdown run by Roach with 14 seconds left before the half made it 34-0.

"Our main focus was trying to get them to throw the ball," Ferguson said. "We knew we didn't have the speed to keep up with them, so we were going to try, and keep them from getting outside and tonight that was our main problem.

"They kept getting outside. They're just faster than us and it showed once they broke the corner."

The Red Devils got on the board in the third quarter on a 6-yard keeper by Radney Wallace. The 2-point conversion run by Zachary Prince was good with 9:37 remaining.

Wallace scored once more for Lawrence County on another 2-yard run. The try for the 2-point conversion failed.

"We told them at halftime to come out and fight. It's a battle and to come out and battle and come out and fight," Ferguson said. "That's one thing I was proud of the kids for. It was 34-0, and they could have given up easily, but they came out and fought. I was proud they didn't give up and kept trying to go after them."
