Jones runs for 207 yards, scores 4 TDs
Undefeated Hazlewood wins Region 8

Hazlewood's D.J. Jones rushed for 207 yards on four first-quarter carries and scored three times in a 56-0 win Friday over Hackleburg.

Jones, a senior, scored on runs of 69, 66 and 65 yards. To top it off, he returned an interception 79 yards in the second quarter for another touchdown.

Jones' big plays made up only part of a night of big plays for Hazlewood, which improved to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in Class 1A, Region 8, which clinches at least a tie for the championship.

Teammate Dave McCoy ran back an interception 85 yards for a touchdown.

Carlos Holden rushed 36 yards for a score, and backup quarterback L.J. Hampton, a sophomore, scored on an 85-yard keeper in the fourth quarter.

Quintavious Williams rushed 5 yards for the lone short touchdown of the night.

Speake 67, Phillips-Bear Creek 28: The Bobcats rolled up 20 points in the first quarter, 20 more in the second and 21 in the third.

Dez Polk helped pace Speake (7-1, 5-1 in 1A, Region 8) with 118 rushing yards on six carries and two touchdowns. Zach Taylor added 92 rushing yards on eight carries and a couple of touchdowns.

T.J. Green, Josh Cooper and Joe Hyde each rushed for a touchdown, and Zach Vick caught a touchdown pass from Green. Taylor Vick returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown.

R.A. Hubbard 34, Vina 21: Tecumseh Garth scored twice for R.A. Hubbard — once on offense and once on defense.

He rushed for a touchdown on a 20-yard run and returned a fumble 23 yards for another.

Javaris Gholston added two touchdown runs for R.A. Hubbard (3-5, 2-4 in 1A, Region 8), and LeBrandon Key contributed one.

Mount Hope 35, Lyman Ward 22: Mount Hope led 21-0 midway through the third quarter and held on for the victory.

Spencer Arthur scored three touchdowns on runs of 1 and 2 yards and on a 13-yard pass from Ty Linker.

Chase Hopkins and Cody Little each rushed for a touchdown.

Skyler Rogers led the Mount Hope defense with 14 tackles and two sacks. He also forced a fumble and recovered one.
