Tanner rushes to a region victory

Tanner High got a big rushing night from Jarquise Peoples and Derrick Malone to beat Winston County 44-20 at home Friday night.

Peoples rushed 13 times for 133 yards and scored three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Malone got 14 carries and gained 136 yards. He scored once.

Together, they helped the Rattlers (5-3, 4-2 in Class 2A, Region 8) to 328 yards on the ground.

They scored all four of their combined touchdowns in the opening half as Tanner built a 30-0 lead. Peoples rushed for scored on runs of 58, 3 and 3 yards, while Malone barreled into the end zone from 6 yards out.

Trey Cosby added two second-half touchdowns. He scored once on a 31-yard pass from Malone and another on a 7-yard run. On top of that, he kicked five extra points in five attempts.

Falkville 27, Vincent 14: Dustin Jump rushed for 128 yards and scored two second-quarter touchdowns to pace the Blue Devils, who are 5-3 overall and 4-2 in 2A, Region 5.

Jump rushed 47 yards for the opening score of the night and then added a 10-yarder before halftime.

Steven Lindsey caught a successful 2-point conversion, returned a punt 38 yards for a touchdown and scored on a 26-yard fumble return.

His punt return came when Falkville was clinging to 14-8 lead.

Red Bay 44, Addison 14: Powerful Addison allowed 30 points in the opening half before getting any points of its own.

Both teams entered the contest unbeaten in 2A, Region 8, and Red Bay's victory clinched at least a tie for the championship. Red Bay also clinched the top seed out of the region for the state playoffs, since it would win a tiebreaker with Addison.

Andrew Privett scored for Addison (6-2, 5-1 in the region) on an 8-yard run, and Colton Alston caught a 3-yard scoring pass from Jordan Rivers.

Red Bay's Josh Senkbeil rushed for 176 yards on 26 carries and scored four touchdowns. Pablo Makepeace scored on a pass reception and kicked six extra points.

Hatton 52, Phil Campbell 28: The Hornets won their first game of the season with a rushing attack that piled up 422 yards.

Hatton (1-7, 1-5 in 2A, Region 8) got four touchdown runs from Tevin Terrill, who scored on rushes of 38, 1, 1 and 80 yards.

Anthony Parker, Devin Parker and Scottie Parrish each rushed for one touchdown, while Clint Proctor nailed a 30-yard field goal.
