Addison takes over 2nd place in region

Addison High edged West Morgan 20-14 in a battle for second place in Class 2A, Region 8.

The Bulldogs (7-2, 6-1 in the region) sewed up second place, while West Morgan (5-4, 5-2) tied Tanner for third. Tanner won the tiebreaker to take the regionís No. 3 seed for the state playoffs, while the Rebels will get the No. 4 seed.

West Morgan took a 14-0 lead when Josh McAbee ran 78 yards for a touchdown and Terrance Carter tacked on a 62-yard scoring run.

However, Addison rallied. Jordan Rivers tossed a 13-yard touchdown to Andrew Privett in the second quarter, and Daniel Mannís extra point cut it to 14-7.

In the third period, Rivers threw a 32-yard touchdown to Elliott Carpenter, and Mannís extra point tied it at 14.

Privett scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth period to make it 20-14.

Tanner 51, Cherokee 21: The Rattlers rushed for 457 yards behind the strength of Derrick Malone and Jarquise Peoples.

Tannerís duo combined for six rushing touchdowns.

Malone gained 202 yards on the ground on only 12 attempts and scored three times on runs of 2, 20 and 51 yards. Peoples rushed for 137 yards on 17 carries and ran for a trio of touchdowns of 2, 32 and 22 yards.

Dominique Randolph, Jeremy Turner and Malone each rushed for one touchdown.

Tanner (6-3) didnít fumble and never needed to punt. The Rattlers led 45-7 heading into the final quarter.

Speake 41, Brilliant 0: The high-scoring Bobcats (8-1) won their seventh straight by posting three first-quarter touchdowns and cruising from there.

Zach Vick caught three passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns of 81, 55 and 49 yards. T.J. Green completed 5 of 7 passes for 222 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for a touchdown.

His one scoring pass that wasnít caught by Vick went to Tyler Gillespie and covered 29 yareds.

Josh Cooper also scored a touchdown on a 4-yard rush for Speake.

Red Bay 30, Hatton 8: Red Bay remained unbeaten at 9-0 with a win at Hatton.

The Hornets (1-8) had Red Bay deadlocked at 8 at halftime before the visitors scored a touchdown in the third period and two more in the fourth.

Hatton rushed for 113 yards, and Tevin Terrell scored the lone touchdown on a 1-yard run.

Steadman Rutherford caught the 2-point conversion on a pass from Terrell.
