Priceville rolls to Class 4A playoff berth

Priceville High clinched a Class 4A state playoff bid with a 26-6 win Friday at East Lawrence.

The Bulldogs (5-4) wrapped up the fourth and final berth out of Region 7.

Priceville took a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter and never trailed. Kristian Barker caught a 15-yard scoring pass from Logan Manthey, and Lorand Dragu kicked the extra point.

The Eagles (1-8) scored in the second quarter to cut it to 7-6 when Hunter Rivers went over the goal line on a 5-yard run.

However, Priceville poured on two more touchdowns before intermission to take control. Scott Smith caught a 30-yard scoring pass from Manthey, and
Jeremy Hale returned an interception 65 yards for a 19-6 advantage.

Eli Allen tacked on a third-quarter touchdown on a 53-yard run.

Allen finished with 117 rushing yards on seven carries.

J.O. Johnson 33, Athens 0: The Golden Eagles were eliminated from the Class 5A playoffs with the home loss.

J.O. Johnson (7-2) built a 19-0 lead at halftime and never allowed Athens (3-6) to gain control.

Jimmy Vaughn led the Jaguars with 165 rushing yards on 20 carries with four touchdowns. He scored on runs of 19, 19, 3 and 72 yards.

Athens' Julius Jones caught two passes for 53 yards, and Justin Brown made two catches for 36 yards.

East Limestone 31, Columbia 0: Despite not having injured quarterback Chad Dewitt, the Indians won to clinch third place in Class 4A, Region 7.

Jonathan Pinque rushed 16 times for East Limestone for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Raece Flynt ran five times for 60 yards.

Cade Medley tossed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Sam Chaney and ran for another.

Jacob Appleby kicked three extra points and a 41-yard field goal, while Brant Talbert added an extra point.

DAR 30, Ardmore 21: Landon Curtis rushed for two touchdowns for Ardmore (1-9), which made two turnovers inside the DAR 20.

Curtis opened the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 in the opening quarter.

However, DAR's Michael Chandler rushed for three touchdowns before halftime to give his squad a 21-7 lead at intermission.

Curtis added a 4-yard scoring run in the third period. After another DAR touchdown, Ardmore got an 8-yard touchdown run from E.J. Barnes in the fourth period to cut it to 28-21, but the Tigers could get no closer.

Hamilton 48, Lawrence County 15: Hamilton combined a strong offense with a stingy defense to roll to the win over Lawrence County.

Hamilton (6-3) got off to a quick start behind an offense that produced 400 yards and never looked back.

A 4-yard run by Joey Frye and a 54-yard pass from Josh Hollingsworth to Josh Huff got the Aggies going in the first quarter.

Lawrence County cut the lead to 13-8 when Matt Pugh passed to Joshua Gaines for 14 yards and a scored.

Taylor Harvard added the 2-point conversion.

However, Hamilton scored 28 unanswered points to open up an overwhelming advantage.

Frye had scoring runs of 22 and 7 yards, while Hollingsworth passed to Frye for a 29-yard touchdown and ran 41 yards for another score.

Lawrence County (2-7) got a 1-yard touchdown from Aaron Hubberty in the fourth and Jacob Shiflet finished the scoring for Hamilton.
