Hendrix scores 25 in Tide scrimmage

From Staff Reports

TUSCALOOSA — Athens High grad Richard Hendrix had 25 points, 12 rebounds and two steals to help the Crimson team beat the White team 104-82 in Alabama’s annual intrasquad scrimmage Tuesday night at Coleman Coliseum.

Crimson Tide head coach Mark Gottfried divided his 14 players into two teams of seven before taking to the court.

Playing for the Crimson squad, senior Mykal Riley exploded for 38 points, knocking down five 3-pointers, to lead all scorers.

“We came out and we had a lot of things we had to work on,” Hendrix said. “It is still a learning experience for us. Our goal is to just get better day to day.”

Decatur High grad Rico Pickett, a Tide freshman, had eight points, seven assists and two blocks for the Crimson squad. Justin Tubbs had 17 points, and Yamene Coleman added 13.

Alonzo Gee paced the White squad with 28 points and 13 rebounds, while Mihail Torrence had 18 points, Justin Knox 13 and Demetrius Jemison 10.

“This was a dress rehearsal to get us ready for the real thing,” Gottfried said.

“We still have a long way to go. I saw a lot of effort and energy out there today.
