Tanner, Addison take the next step
W. Morgan can't hold lead as season ends

Dominique Randolph ran for a touchdown and threw for another as Tanner High beat Lineville 20-7 in the opening round of the Class 2A state playoffs Friday.

Derrick Malone also scored a pair of touchdowns, and Jarquise Peoples rushed for 110 yards on 27 carries.

Tanner (7-4) will face Cleveland or Fyffe in the second round.

The Rattlers opened the scoring with an 8-yard run by Malone in the opening quarter for a 6-0 advantage.

Malone caught a 20-yard scoring pass from Randolph in the second quarter. David Adams then caught a successful 2-point pass from Randolph to make it 14-0.

Randolph made it 20-0 with a 49-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Justin Rush’s 6-yard run accounted for Lineville’s only touchdown.

Addison 29, Ranburne 13: Ranburne took a 7-0 lead into the second quarter, but Addison didn’t allow the visitors to keep the advantage for long.

Addison (9-2) scored nine points in the second quarter, six in the third and 14 in the fourth to pull out a victory.

Andrew Privett rushed for 163 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Privett began the rally with a 10-yard run in the second period. Daniel Mann kicked a 34-yard field goal before halftime for a 9-7 lead.

Privett rushed for an 81-yard touchdown in the third period.

After Ranburne scored in the fourth period to slice the advantage to 16-13, Addison managed two touchdowns to put the game out of reach.

Elliott Carpenter caught a 28-yard pass from Jordan Rivers. Then Jordan Wiggins caught a 2-point pass from Rivers to make it 23-16.

Rivers closed out the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run.

Woodland 14, West Morgan 10: The Rebels’ season ended with a heart-breaking loss.

West Morgan (6-5) led 10-0 through three quarters, only to see Woodland (8-3) score two fourth-quarter touchdowns to take the victory.

Jared Spooner began the scoring with a 25-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead.

In the third quarter, Josh McAbee rushed into the end zone from 1 yard away, and Spooner’s extra point made it 10-0.

West Morgan’s Terrance Carter rushed for 150 yards on 16 carries, and Caleb Brown added 75 yards on 14 attempts.

This helped pace a West Morgan ground game that compiled 231 yards.
