Dewitt contributes to 2 TDs early for East Limestone

Chad Dewitt accounted for two touchdowns in the opening quarter, and East Limestone High rolled to a 38-22 win at Tarrant in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs Friday.

Dewitt rushed 26 yards for a score and hooked up with Sam Chaney for a 65-yard touchdown pass.

Jonathan Pinque, Raece Flint and Blake Long each rushed for a touchdown.

Long’s run covered 61 yards.

East Limestone (8-3) led 14-0 after one quarter, 21-8 at halftime and 35-16 after three periods.Tarrant’s André Barry scored twice on runs of 34 and 37 yards.

St. Clair County 28, Priceville 0: Defense dominated the Bulldogs’ first trip to the state playoffs.

Priceville (6-5) limited St. Clair County (9-2) to five first downs and 201 yards. However, the winners took advantage of five turnovers by the Bulldogs, who compiled 173 yards.

In addition, Spencer Duncan completed three touchdown passes to three different receivers, including a 70-yarder to James Ford in the opening quarter.

St. Clair County’s LaBrodrick Smith rushed for 74 yards on 15 carries and scored on a 27-yard run.

Sardis 21, Elkmont 13: The Red Devils rallied late but fell short.

Sardis built a 14-0 lead with two touchdowns in the second quarter and added another touchdown in the fourth quarter for a 21-0 lead.

Then Elkmont (5-6) mounted a comeback.

Dylan Brazeal tossed a 20-yard scoring pass to David Solomon to make it 21-7. Brazeal and Solomon hooked up again for a 17-yard scoring throw to make it 21-13.

Elkmont passed for 257 yards, but couldn’t stop Sardis on the ground. The winners rushed for 287 yards.

Plainview 21, Clements 20: After making the state playoffs for the second straight year, Clements ended its season at 5-6. The Bears edged the Colts in Rainsville on Friday night.

Clements trailed 21-14 before driving for a touchdown with 15 seconds to play. Seth Bachelor caught a 5-yard scoring pass from Jamison Bridges. However, the 2-point pass failed.

Earlier, Bachelor caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Bridges, and Codey Rose rushed 2 yards for a score.

Bridges also completed a successful 2-point pass to Brad Smith. All of Clements’ scoring came after halftime.
