  • The Living Waters for the World 5 kilometer and 1 kilometer run will be Nov. 24. The 5K begins at 8 a.m.

    The races will start and finish at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 801 Jackson St. S.E. The event will benefit the Living Waters for the World ( mission project, which sends missionaries to villages in Central and South America to install water purification systems.

    Entry forms are available at area health clubs, recreation centers, shoe and sporting goods stores as well as Westminster Presbyterian Church. Register online at or download entry form at

  • America’s Best 8-and-under fastpitch softball team won the Halloween Fall Festival in Cullman on Oct. 27. The team went 4-1 to win the event. It beat the Hartselle Hornets 5-3, Decatur Storm 6-5, Trussville Red Storm 3-1 and then defeated the North Alabama Rockets 6-2 in the championship game. The Rockets beat America’s Best 5-3 in pool play.

    Members of the winning team were Haley White, Bailey Gillespie, Madison Jones, Delaney Terry, Mary Grace Gillespie, Katie Amos, Katie Burden, McKinley Gillespie, Allie Jo Kelley, Ali Grace Shelton and Jada Harris. Coaches are Bob Collins, Whitney Collins, Emily Collins, Brent Gillespie and Tina Jones.

  • The University of Alabama will hold its annual hitting clinic Nov. 25 at the Hank Crisp Indoor Practice Facility.

    The clinic offers two sessions, grades 2-6 from 9 a.m. to noon and grades 7-12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
