Young guns pace Athens past Grissom

Two sophomores and a freshman paced Athens High’s girls basketball team in scoring in Saturday’s 71-35 win over Grissom.

Sophomore LeCresha Horton poured in 27 points, while sophomore Ciera Jones added 10 points and eight rebounds. Elizabeth Ming had 10 points.

Candice Bone, the team’s lone senior, gave Athens (3-1) a lift as well. She had six points, 10 assists and eight steals.

Kanisha Pride had seven points and seven assists. Elizabeth Schexnayder had eight rebounds, and Kajonica Hankin added seven.

Megan Campera had 12 points to pace Grissom.

Athens will play its home opener Tuesday against Decatur Heritage.

Priceville 65, Danville 48: Four players scored at least 11 points as Priceville scored its first victory of the season.

Alisa Johnson led the way for the Lady Bulldogs (1-1)with 13 points, while Abbie Harris and Keila Hamlin each had 12. Callie Cox scored 11 points.

For Danville, Alaina Fitzgerald led with 17 points, while Ashley Nance scored 14.

Boys

Danville 60, Priceville 56: Russell Standridge poured in 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Hawks (2-1) at Priceville. Roger Smith had a strong night, too, chipping in 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

For the Bulldogs (0-2), JaColby Reed had 17 points, and Josh Sharp had 13. Kristian Barker added 11.

Danville will travel to Priceville again Friday for the first round of the Priceville Thanksgiving tournament.
