Pick Tigers, Tide to win home games

Alabama's Nick Saban faces Arkansas' Houston Nutt on Saturday for the first time since 2004.

Saban holds a 3-2 edge, although his LSU teams dominated the last two meetings, winning 55-24 in 2003 and 43-14 in 2004 — Saban's last win with the Bengal Tigers.

Nutt was 3-1 against Alabama when Mike Shula coached the Crimson Tide.

Meanwhile, Auburn's Tommy Tuberville is 3-0 against Mississippi State's Sylvester Croom.

Including the last three meetings against State when Jackie Sherrill was coach, Tuberville has six straight wins over the Bulldogs, and the last five haven't been close.

No. 16 Arkansas (1-0) at Alabama (2-0): Alabama is at home, and even though the Razorbacks have the fantastic running combination of Darren McFadden and Felix Jones, keep in mind that the Tide has allowed 66.5 rushing yards a game, while Arkansas allowed 162 to Troy in its one game this season. ... Alabama 20, Arkansas 14.

Mississippi State (1-1) at Auburn (1-1): It would be nice to see MSU quarterback Michael Henig, an Auburn fan as a child, play well at Jordan-Hare Stadium, but after a home loss to South Florida, the Tigers probably won't be so willing to welcome the Montgomery native with open arms. ... Auburn 34, Mississippi State 7.

No. 1 Southern California (1-0) at No. 14 Nebraska (2-0): This marks the first time a No. 1 team has visited Nebraska since the Cornhuskers beat Oklahoma in 1978. USC is 2-0-1 against Nebraska with a win last season and in 1969. The two teams tied in 1970 in Los Angeles when Nebraska won the national title. ... Southern California 28, Nebraska 27.

Notre Dame (0-2) at Michigan (0-2): Notre Dame has scored 13 points in two games. Last year, the Irish rushed for 4 yards against Michigan. Sure, the Wolverines are struggling, but Notre Dame has looked putrid so far. ... Michigan 28, Notre Dame 11.

No. 22 Tennessee (1-1) at No. 5 Florida (2-0): The Gators have scored 15 touchdowns in two games, and the Vols haven't played with much consistency on defense. Florida's inexperienced defense will give up some points, but the offense will score plenty. ... Florida 38, Tennessee 31.

No. 9 Louisville (2-0) at Kentucky (2-0): Louisville ranks first in the nation in scoring with 65.5 points a game, while Kentucky is seventh with 53 a game. Who knows? Maybe they'll combine to top 100. ... Louisville 55, Kentucky 47.

Western Carolina (0-2) at No. 23 Georgia (1-1): The Bulldogs are 1-1 for the first time since 2001. These two teams played in 1991 with Georgia winning 48-0. Some things don't change. ... Georgia 48, Western Carolina 0.

Ole Miss (1-1) at Vanderbilt (1-1): Vandy's Bobby Johnson is 1-4 against Ole Miss, with the one win coming at home in 2005. Jay Cutler quarterbacked the Commodores then. This time, who knows? Starting quarterback Chris Nickson is questionable after getting hurt against Alabama. Even so, Ed Orgeron's Ole Miss team has struggled, too. ... Vanderbilt 17, Ole Miss 14.

Middle Tennessee (0-2) at No. 2 LSU (2-0): LSU has won 14 straight at home and is allowing only 3.5 points a game. The Blue Raiders lost 58-42 to Louisville in their last game. ... LSU 40, Middle Tennessee 7.

South Carolina State (1-1) at No. 17 South Carolina (2-0): With Saturday's win over Georgia, South Carolina is back to .500 all-time for the first time since 1988. The Gamecocks are 517-517-44. South Carolina State has lost to Air Force 34-3 and beaten Bethune-Cookman 24-13. ... South Carolina 42, South Carolina State 0.

Last week: 8-2.

Overall: 18-2.
